The mission of EPA’s Indoor Environments Division is to protect the public and the environment from the risks of indoor air pollution. The division works across the Agency and with other federal, state, tribal, and non-governmental organizations to carry out its mission. IED develops criteria, standards, guidance, policies, and programs to control exposure to indoor air pollutants. The division:
- Provides technical assistance to states and tribes through EPA's Regional offices, and to other national and international organizations having indoor air protection programs;
- Publishes guidance documents and holds conferences concerning asthma, mold, radon, and indoor air quality in homes, large buildings, and schools; and
- Evaluates and assesses the overall risk and impact of indoor air pollution.
